Jeanie Johnston was a three-masted barque built in Quebec, Canada, in 1847 during one of the most difficult periods in Irish history. Originally constructed for the Glover family of Tralee, Ireland, the ship was designed to carry cargo and passengers across the Atlantic between Ireland, North America, and other international ports. Her most famous role came during the Great Famine, when thousands of Irish people were forced to leave their homeland due to starvation, poverty, and economic hardship.
