Description
The Sampan Boat, also known as Thuyen Ba La Tam Ban, is a traditional small wooden boat or skiff with a rich maritime history in Asia. First developed during the Han Dynasty in China, sampan boats later became widely used on the waters of Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. This handcrafted sampan boat is fully functional and designed for rowing and recreational use on suitable calm waters.
The name “sampan” comes from the Chinese term meaning “three boards,” although sampan boats can be constructed with more than three boards. Our version features seven boards made from Star Wood or Merawan hardwood, a fine local wood with a natural appearance similar to golden oak.
The boat is assembled around a sturdy wooden skeleton frame, then smoothly sanded, painted, and varnished for a durable finish. The classic red color highlights its traditional character, while a red version is also available as Item K207R.
