Pegasus Barge (NASA Vessel) 36 Inches Ship Model

Pegasus Barge – NASA Vessel – 36-Inch Handcrafted Wooden Model

Own a handcrafted tribute to one of NASA's most recognizable space transportation vessels. The Pegasus Barge was a vital part of NASA's Space Shuttle Program infrastructure, designed to transport the massive external fuel tanks and other large aerospace components between manufacturing facilities, launch sites, and processing areas. Built specifically to handle oversized space hardware, the barge supported the complex logistics network required to prepare Space Shuttle missions. With its enormous deck capacity, specialized transport capability, and important role in America's space exploration history, Pegasus Barge represents the engineering achievement behind every successful launch.

Our 36-inch handcrafted Pegasus Barge model faithfully captures the distinctive appearance of the original vessel. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in real wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, to ensure exceptional durability, fine detail, and a timeless finish.

Every element is carefully recreated, from the broad flat hull and expansive cargo deck to the support structures, railings, cranes, navigation equipment, and other signature features that define this unique NASA transportation vessel. Rather than being mass-produced, each model is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a museum-quality display piece worthy of any aerospace, maritime, or space exploration collection.

The 36-inch model offers a larger, more commanding display while showcasing an even greater level of craftsmanship and detail. Its increased size allows the Pegasus Barge's massive deck area, specialized transport features, and distinctive structure to stand out more prominently, making it an impressive centerpiece for an office, study, display cabinet, or dedicated collection room. Ideal for NASA enthusiasts, space program historians, aerospace professionals, and serious collectors, the 36-inch version delivers enhanced realism and visual impact while remaining practical for most display spaces. It is the perfect choice for those seeking a substantial museum-quality model that celebrates the innovation, teamwork, and engineering excellence behind America's space exploration achievements.

Each piece is individually handcrafted, with production typically taking 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. Throughout the process, we'll keep you updated with detailed progress photos at every major milestone, allowing you to review the craftsmanship and approve each stage before we move forward.

You'll receive photos during:

- Hull construction
- Deck detailing and superstructure assembly
- Final painting and finishing

Your satisfaction comes first. We proceed to the next stage only after you've reviewed the previous one.

History
The Pegasus Barge was constructed in 1999 by NASA to transport oversized aerospace components, particularly the Space Shuttle External Tanks, between manufacturing facilities in Louisiana and the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Designed with an unusually large open cargo deck and shallow draft, the barge enabled the safe transportation of structures too large for rail or highway shipment, becoming a critical logistical link within NASA's Space Shuttle Program.

Throughout its operational life, Pegasus carried every External Tank used during the Space Shuttle era and later supported transportation for components of NASA's Space Launch System (SLS). Its specialized design and dependable service have made Pegasus one of the most important yet often overlooked vessels in American space exploration, quietly supporting some of the nation's most ambitious aerospace achievements.
