History
The Anne was one of the most important ships in the early history of English settlement in North America, carrying a large group of colonists to the struggling Plymouth Colony in 1623. Chartered by the Merchant Adventurers, the vessel was a merchant ship of approximately 140 tons commanded by the experienced mariner Captain William Peirce. Departing England in the spring of 1623 alongside the smaller Little James, the Anne carried about 60 passengers, including women, children, skilled craftsmen, and supplies intended to strengthen the young colony. After a challenging Atlantic crossing of nearly three months, the ship arrived at Plymouth in July 1623, bringing much-needed manpower and provisions that greatly improved the colony's chances of survival.

The arrival of the Anne marked a turning point for Plymouth Colony. Many of its passengers were family members joining settlers who had arrived aboard the Mayflower in 1620, helping transform the settlement into a more stable and permanent community.
