The Perla del Caribe made history upon its delivery in January 2016 as the world’s second container ship to be powered entirely by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), operating alongside its sister ship, the Isla Bella. Built by General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, California, for TOTE Maritime, this highly specialized Marlin-class vessel measures 764 feet in length and features a cargo capacity of 3,100 TEUs. The ship was custom-built specifically to serve the critical Jones Act domestic trade route between Jacksonville, Florida, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
