History
The MV Alaskan Legend is a modern double-hull crude oil tanker engineered to transport Alaska North Slope crude oil safely between the Port of Valdez and refineries along the U.S. West Coast. Delivered in 2006 by General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego, the vessel is one of four Alaska-class tankers developed to replace older single-hull ships in alignment with the Oil Pollution Act of 1990. Measuring approximately 287 meters (941 feet) in length with a deadweight of about 193,000 tons, the Alaskan Legend features diesel-electric propulsion, sophisticated cargo management systems, and a robust double-hull design that significantly enhances both operational safety and environmental protection.

Operated by the Alaska Tanker Company (ATC), the vessel serves as a vital artery for transporting crude oil from the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, frequently navigating the demanding waters of Prince William Sound and the North Pacific.
