The R/V Atlantis stands as one of the world's most renowned oceanographic research vessels and a premier flagship for deep-sea scientific exploration. Commissioned in 1997 and constructed by Halter Marine in Moss Point, Mississippi, the ship was built for the U.S. Navy’s Office of Naval Research and is currently operated by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
