The American Queen is widely recognized as the largest authentic steam-powered paddlewheel riverboat ever built, earning a distinguished place in American maritime history. Launched on January 5, 1995, by McDermott Shipyard in Amelia, Louisiana, for the Delta Queen Steamboat Company, the vessel measures an impressive 418 feet in length with an 89-foot beam. Designed as a grand luxury riverboat, the American Queen is powered by a fully operational 1932 Nordberg steam engine, originally recovered from a federal dredge vessel, which drives her iconic 60-ton oak-and-steel stern paddlewheel.

For nearly three decades, the American Queen served as the flagship of American overnight river cruising, welcoming up to 436 passengers on voyages along the historic Mississippi and Ohio rivers. Showcasing elegant Victorian-inspired architecture, the vessel combines classic steamboat heritage with modern comfort.
