Description
Own a handcrafted replica of one of Alaska's best-known modern commercial crab fishing vessels. The F/V Saga gained widespread recognition through Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch, where viewers witnessed the demanding reality of commercial crab fishing in the unforgiving waters of the Bering Sea and North Pacific. Representing a new generation of Alaska's commercial fishing fleet, the Saga combines modern engineering, experienced seamanship, and dependable performance while operating in some of the world's harshest maritime environments.
Our 36-inch handcrafted F/V Saga model faithfully captures the authentic appearance of the original vessel. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in authentic wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, to ensure exceptional durability, fine craftsmanship, and a timeless finish.
Every element is carefully recreated, from the reinforced fishing hull and spacious working deck to the modern wheelhouse, hydraulic deck equipment, sorting tables, navigation mast, floodlights, safety gear, and the vessel's distinctive profile. Rather than being mass-produced, each model is individually handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, creating a museum-quality display piece worthy of any maritime, commercial fishing, or Deadliest Catch collection.
One of the defining characteristics of the F/V Saga is her streamlined hull, modern superstructure, and highly efficient working deck designed for commercial crab fishing in the challenging conditions of the Bering Sea. This handcrafted model faithfully recreates her dark hull, hydraulic equipment, sorting stations, powerful floodlights, and rugged fishing layout, beautifully capturing the strength, reliability, and contemporary character that have made the Saga one of Alaska's most recognizable commercial fishing vessels.
The 36-inch model offers a larger, more commanding display while showcasing an even greater level of craftsmanship and detail. Its increased size allows the Saga's working deck, hydraulic fishing equipment, wheelhouse, floodlights, and commercial crabbing features to stand out with exceptional clarity, making it an impressive centerpiece for an office, study, display cabinet, or dedicated collection room. Preferred by serious collectors and Deadliest Catch enthusiasts, the 36-inch version delivers enhanced realism, stronger visual impact, and museum-quality craftsmanship while remaining suitable for most larger display spaces. It is the ideal choice for those seeking a premium replica that fully captures the rugged character of this iconic Alaskan fishing vessel.
Each piece is individually handcrafted, and production typically takes 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. History
The F/V Saga is a well-known commercial crab fishing vessel that has earned a respected reputation while operating in the challenging waters of Alaska’s Bering Sea. Built in 1979 by Bender Shipbuilding in Mobile, Alabama, the 107-foot vessel features a rugged steel hull and a broad 30-foot beam, providing excellent stability and ample live-tank capacity. Designed to perform in the demanding conditions of the King Crab and Opilio Crab fisheries, the F/V Saga is engineered to withstand freezing temperatures, heavy seas, and powerful winter storms while maintaining reliable commercial fishing operations.
The F/V Saga gained international recognition through its appearances on the television series Deadliest Catch, becoming easily identifiable by its distinctive dark-colored hull and aft-cabin configuration, which differs from the traditional house-forward layout found on many Alaskan crab boats. Equipped with heavy-duty hydraulic cranes and a reinforced deck system for handling and securing large steel crab pots in rough seas, the vessel exemplifies the strength, durability, and determination required to succeed in one of the world's most demanding commercial fisheries.
