Description
Own a handcrafted replica of one of the U.S. Military Sealift Command's most capable strategic sealift vessels. USNS Dahl (T-AKR-312) is a distinguished member of the Watson-class Large, Medium-Speed Roll-on/Roll-off (LMSR) fleet, serving as a critical component of America's global military logistics network. Named in honor of Army Specialist Four Larry G. Dahl, a Medal of Honor recipient from the Vietnam War, the vessel is strategically pre-positioned around the world, fully loaded and prepared to rapidly deploy tanks, armored vehicles, military equipment, and infrastructure support whenever and wherever needed.
Our 36-inch handcrafted USNS Dahl model faithfully captures the distinctive appearance of the original vessel. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in authentic wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, to ensure exceptional durability, fine craftsmanship, and a timeless finish.
Every element is carefully recreated, from the massive hull and expansive cargo decks to the commercial-style superstructure, roll-on/roll-off ramps, bridge, deck fittings, and other signature features that define this remarkable military transport vessel. Rather than being mass-produced, each model is individually handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, creating a museum-quality display piece worthy of any military, naval, or maritime collection.
One of the defining characteristics of USNS Dahl is its enormous cargo capacity and highly versatile internal ramp system, specifically engineered to transport some of the world's heaviest military vehicles, including M1 Abrams main battle tanks and other armored equipment. This handcrafted model faithfully showcases the vessel's distinctive box-shaped cargo superstructure, precisely detailed bridge, rugged hull design, and specialized roll-on/roll-off configuration, reflecting the engineering excellence and logistical strength that make USNS Dahl an indispensable asset to the U.S. Military Sealift Command.
The 36-inch model offers a larger, more commanding display while showcasing an even greater level of craftsmanship and detail. Its increased size allows USNS Dahl's expansive cargo decks, roll-on/roll-off ramps, massive box-shaped superstructure, detailed bridge, and rugged hull configuration to be appreciated with exceptional clarity, creating an impressive centerpiece for an executive office, study, display cabinet, or dedicated collection room. Preferred by serious collectors, military historians, veterans, and naval enthusiasts, the 36-inch version delivers enhanced realism, stronger visual presence, and a museum-quality presentation while remaining ideally suited for larger display spaces. It is the perfect choice for those seeking a premium handcrafted replica that fully captures the engineering excellence, logistical power, and strategic importance of one of America's premier military sealift vessels.
Each piece is individually handcrafted, and production typically takes 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. History
The USNS Dahl (T-AKR-312) is an important member of the Military Sealift Command’s strategic sealift fleet, purpose-built to support the rapid deployment of U.S. military forces worldwide. Named in honor of Army Specialist Fourth Class Larry G. Dahl, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for sacrificing his life to protect fellow soldiers from a grenade during the Vietnam War in 1971, the vessel had her keel laid on November 12, 1997. Constructed by the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) in San Diego, this Watson-class large, medium-speed roll-on/roll-off (LMSR) cargo ship was launched on October 2, 1998, and entered active non-commissioned service with the Military Sealift Command on July 13, 1999.
Measuring 951 feet in length with a full-load displacement of approximately 62,970 tons, the USNS Dahl is designed to transport more than 900 military vehicles, including M1 Abrams main battle tanks, armored personnel carriers, and other essential combat equipment. Powered by advanced gas turbine engines, the vessel primarily operates in the Pacific Ocean as part of Afloat Prepositioning Ship Squadron Four, maintaining a forward-deployed logistics capability that enables rapid military response and sustained operational support wherever it is required.
