The USNS Watson (T-AKR-310) is the lead vessel of the Watson-class large, medium-speed roll-on/roll-off (LMSR) cargo ships operated by the U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command. Named in honor of Private George Watson, a World War II soldier who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 1997, the 951-foot ship had her keel laid on May 23, 1996. She was launched on July 26, 1997, and officially entered service on June 23, 1998.
