USS Greeneville (SSN-772) – 36-Inch Handcrafted Wooden Model
Own a handcrafted tribute to one of the United States Navy's most formidable fast attack submarines. Commissioned in 1996, the USS Greeneville (SSN-772) is a Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered submarine built to carry out a wide range of missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision strike operations. Renowned for its speed, stealth, and advanced combat capabilities, Greeneville has served around the globe, demonstrating the technological excellence and operational readiness that define the U.S. Navy's submarine force.
Our 36-inch handcrafted USS Greeneville model faithfully captures the distinctive appearance of the original submarine. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in real wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, to ensure exceptional durability, fine detail, and a timeless finish.
Every element is carefully recreated, from the streamlined teardrop hull and sail to the diving planes, propulsor details, sonar dome, deck features, and other signature characteristics that distinguish this renowned Los Angeles-class submarine. Rather than being mass-produced, each model is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a museum-quality display piece worthy of any military or naval collection.
The 36-inch model offers a larger, more commanding display while showcasing an even greater level of craftsmanship and detail. Its increased size allows the USS Greeneville's sleek hull, sail, and finely crafted details to stand out more prominently, making it an impressive centerpiece for an office, study, display cabinet, or dedicated collection room. Ideal for naval veterans, submarine enthusiasts, military historians, and serious collectors, the 36-inch version delivers enhanced realism and visual impact while remaining practical for most display spaces. It is the perfect choice for those seeking a substantial museum-quality model that captures the power, stealth, and enduring legacy of this exceptional nuclear-powered attack submarine.
Each piece is individually handcrafted, with production typically taking 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. Throughout the process, we'll keep you updated with detailed progress photos at every major milestone, allowing you to review the craftsmanship and approve each stage before we move forward.
You'll receive photos during:
- Hull construction

History
Commissioned in 1996, USS Greeneville (SSN-772) is a Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered fast attack submarine of the United States Navy. Named after the city of Greeneville, Tennessee, the submarine was designed to perform a wide range of missions, including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance, and precision strike operations. Powered by a nuclear reactor, Greeneville is capable of remaining submerged for extended periods while operating at high speed across the world's oceans.
USS Greeneville became widely known following the tragic 2001 collision with the Japanese fisheries training ship Ehime Maru near Hawaii during a demonstration cruise, an accident that prompted significant changes to Navy operational procedures and safety practices. Despite this unfortunate event, the submarine continued its active service after extensive repairs and has since participated in numerous deployments throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Today, Greeneville remains an important component of the U.S. Navy's submarine force, contributing to regional stability, deterrence, and undersea warfare capabilities through advanced technology and highly trained crews.
