USCGC Healy (WAGB-20) – 36-Inch Handcrafted Wooden Model
Own a handcrafted tribute to one of the United States Coast Guard's most advanced polar research icebreakers. Commissioned in 2000, the USCGC Healy (WAGB-20) was designed to support scientific research, Arctic exploration, environmental monitoring, and national security missions in some of the world's most challenging icy waters. As the Coast Guard's premier research icebreaker, Healy provides an exceptional platform for oceanographers, climatologists, biologists, and other scientists while also strengthening the United States' presence in the rapidly changing Arctic. Its state-of-the-art laboratories, powerful icebreaking capabilities, and versatile mission profile have made it an indispensable asset for both science and maritime operations.
Our 36-inch handcrafted USCGC Healy model faithfully captures the distinctive appearance of the original vessel. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in real wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, to ensure exceptional durability, fine detail, and a timeless finish.
Every element is carefully recreated, from the reinforced icebreaking hull and expansive superstructure to the bridge, research equipment, cranes, helicopter flight deck, radar masts, lifeboats, and other signature features that define this remarkable polar research vessel. Rather than being mass-produced, each model is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a museum-quality display piece worthy of any maritime or Coast Guard collection.
The 36-inch model offers a larger, more commanding display while showcasing an even greater level of craftsmanship and detail. Its increased size allows the Healy's distinctive icebreaking bow, extensive research facilities, and intricate deck equipment to stand out more prominently, making it an impressive centerpiece for an office, study, display cabinet, or dedicated collection room. Ideal for Coast Guard veterans, maritime enthusiasts, polar researchers, and serious collectors, the 36-inch version delivers enhanced realism and visual impact while remaining practical for most display spaces. It is the perfect choice for those seeking a substantial museum-quality model that celebrates the innovation, capability, and enduring legacy of America's premier Arctic research icebreaker.
Each piece is individually handcrafted, with production typically taking 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. Throughout the process, we'll keep you updated with detailed progress photos at every major milestone, allowing you to review the craftsmanship and approve each stage before we move forward.
You'll receive photos during:
- Hull construction
- Deck detailing and superstructure assembly
- Final painting and finishing
Your satisfaction comes first. We proceed to the next stage only after you've reviewed the previous one.
Secure Worldwide Delivery
Once you approve the completed model, it will be carefully packed in a custom-built wooden shipping crate with multiple layers of protective cushioning to ensure it arrives safely anywhere in the world.

History
Commissioned in 2000, USCGC Healy (WAGB-20) is the United States Coast Guard's largest and most technologically advanced scientific research icebreaker. Named after Captain Michael Augustine Healy, a pioneering officer known as the "Father of the Coast Guard," the vessel was specifically designed to support Arctic scientific research while maintaining the Coast Guard's presence in the increasingly strategic polar region. Unlike the heavy icebreakers Polar Star and Polar Sea, Healy was built primarily as a research platform, featuring extensive laboratory facilities, advanced oceanographic equipment, and accommodations for more than 50 scientists in addition to its Coast Guard crew.
Over the past two decades, Healy has become an indispensable platform for multidisciplinary Arctic research, conducting missions that range from climate studies and marine biology to oceanography and seabed mapping. The vessel has participated in numerous international scientific expeditions, helping researchers better understand the rapidly changing Arctic environment and its global impact. Beyond scientific discovery, Healy also supports search and rescue operations, maritime domain awareness, environmental protection, and national security missions, reinforcing the United States' commitment to maintaining a strong operational presence in one of the world's most challenging and strategically important regions.
