The Special Operations Craft – River (SOC-R) was developed by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) to provide a fast, highly maneuverable platform for special operations forces conducting missions in inland waterways and coastal environments. Introduced in the early 2000s, the SOC-R replaced the aging Special Operations Craft – Light (SOC-L) and was designed specifically to support the U.S. Army's 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment and Naval Special Warfare units. Built by United States Marine, Inc. (USMI), the craft features a lightweight aluminum hull, powerful diesel engines, and waterjet propulsion, allowing it to operate at speeds exceeding 40 knots while navigating shallow rivers and narrow channels.

Throughout its service, the SOC-R has been deployed in numerous combat and counterterrorism operations, particularly in the Middle East and other regions where riverine mobility is essential.
