SS Statendam (1957) Ocean Liner – 30-Inch Handcrafted Wooden Model
Own a handcrafted model of the SS Statendam (1957), one of the most elegant Dutch ocean liners of the postwar era. Launched in 1957 as the flagship of the Holland America Line, the SS Statendam represented a new generation of transatlantic passenger ships, combining modern engineering, refined accommodations, and exceptional reliability. Designed to serve both North Atlantic crossings and luxury cruises, she earned a reputation for comfort, graceful styling, and dependable service throughout a distinguished career spanning more than three decades. The SS Statendam remains a cherished symbol of Dutch maritime excellence and the golden age of ocean liner travel.
Our 30-inch handcrafted SS Statendam (1957) Ocean Liner model faithfully captures the distinctive appearance of this iconic vessel. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in real wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, ensuring exceptional durability, refined craftsmanship, and a timeless museum-quality finish.
Every element is carefully recreated, from the elegantly proportioned hull and streamlined superstructure to the bridge, twin funnels, promenade decks, lifeboats, masts, deck cranes, ventilators, railings, and other signature features that define the SS Statendam (1957). Rather than being mass-produced, each model is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a stunning display piece worthy of any maritime, ocean liner, or Holland America Line collection.
The 30-inch model offers the perfect balance of craftsmanship, practicality, and value. Large enough to showcase the SS Statendam's intricate details yet compact enough to fit comfortably on bookshelves, office desks, display cabinets, or mantels, it is an ideal choice for both home and office display. Its convenient size also makes it more affordable than larger models, easier to ship worldwide, and a thoughtful gift for ocean liner enthusiasts, maritime historians, collectors, or anyone who appreciates the elegance of the Golden Age of Transatlantic Travel.
Each piece is individually handcrafted, and production typically takes 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. Throughout the process, we'll keep you updated with detailed progress photos at every major milestone, allowing you to review the craftsmanship and approve each stage before we move forward.
You'll receive photos during:
- Hull construction
- Deck detailing and superstructure assembly
- Final painting and finishing
Your satisfaction comes first. We proceed to the next stage only after you've reviewed the previous one.

History
SS Statendam was the fourth Holland America Line ship to carry the name Statendam and represented the company's commitment to elegant postwar ocean travel. Launched in 1956 and entering service in 1957, she was built by Wilton-Fijenoord in the Netherlands for transatlantic voyages between Rotterdam and New York. Designed with sleek modern lines, comfortable accommodations, and refined Dutch craftsmanship, the liner offered luxury for first-class passengers while also providing quality facilities for tourist-class travelers. As international travel evolved during the 1950s and 1960s, Statendam successfully balanced her role as both an ocean liner and an increasingly popular cruise ship, serving destinations throughout the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Mediterranean.
Throughout her career, SS Statendam earned a reputation for dependable service, excellent hospitality, and graceful design. As commercial air travel reduced demand for transatlantic crossings, she transitioned primarily to leisure cruising, continuing to delight passengers with memorable voyages around the world. In 1982, the ship was sold and began a second career under new owners, sailing under several different names before eventually being retired and scrapped in 2004. Although the vessel no longer survives, SS Statendam remains an admired chapter in Holland America Line's history. Today, detailed ship models preserve the memory of this distinguished liner, celebrating her elegant appearance, maritime heritage, and important role during the golden age of postwar passenger travel.
