History
The USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) is the lead ship of the Blue Ridge-class command ships and serves as the flagship of the United States Seventh Fleet, making it one of the U.S. Navy's most important command-and-control vessels. Built at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, her keel was laid on February 27, 1967, and she was commissioned on November 14, 1970. Unlike earlier command ships converted from other vessels, Blue Ridge was purpose-built for command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) operations. Measuring 634 feet (193 m) in length and displacing nearly 19,600 tons, she was equipped with one of the most advanced communications systems of her time, enabling fleet commanders to coordinate naval operations across the Indo-Pacific.

In 1979, the USS Blue Ridge moved its homeport to Yokosuka, Japan, becoming the permanent flagship of the U.S. Seventh Fleet. The ship played a key role during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, earning a Navy Unit Commendation for outstanding service. Over more than five decades, Blue Ridge has participated in multinational exercises, humanitarian missions, disaster relief, and maritime security operations, strengthening partnerships throughout the Indo-Pacific.
