The American Queen holds an undisputed position in maritime history as the largest authentic steam-powered paddlewheel riverboat ever constructed. Launched on January 5, 1995, by the McDermott Shipyard in Amelia, Louisiana, for the Delta Queen Steamboat Company, this colossal vessel measures an incredible 418 feet in length with a wide 89-foot beam. Built as a true grand palace of the rivers, she was uniquely outfitted with a fully operational, historic 1932 Nordberg steam engine, salvaged from a federal dredge boat, to turn her massive 60-ton solid oak and steel red paddlewheel.
