History
The American Duchess made her grand debut in August 2017 as the first all-suite paddlewheel hull to operate on the Mississippi River system, setting a new benchmark for luxury inland water travel. Much like her sister ships, she was born from a major maritime transformation, built upon the heavy-duty steel hull of a 1995 vintage river vessel. Reconstructed from the deck up by Gulf Island Shipyard in Houma, Louisiana, the 340-foot vessel was transformed into an intimate, floating boutique hotel capable of carrying 166 passengers through the historical waterways of America's internal river networks.

The engineering of the American Duchess beautifully pairs the timeless romance of 19th-century steamboat travel with advanced, eco-friendly marine systems hidden beneath her classic exterior. Her prominent stern paddlewheel serves as a striking visual tribute to the legendary golden era of Mark Twain-style riverboats, while her unique double-deck loft suites represented a major architectural first for domestic river vessels.
