Description

Own a handcrafted replica of one of the most iconic harbor tugboats in American maritime history. The Carol Moran represents the golden age of New York Harbor, where Moran Towing Corporation played a vital role in guiding transatlantic ocean liners, cargo ships, and naval vessels safely through one of the world's busiest ports. As part of the legendary Moran fleet, the Carol Moran remains a symbol of American tugboat heritage, exceptional seamanship, and the hardworking spirit that powered the nation's waterfront for generations.

Our 30-inch handcrafted Carol Moran model faithfully captures the authentic appearance of the original vessel. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in authentic wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, to ensure exceptional durability, fine craftsmanship, and a timeless finish.

Every element is carefully recreated, from the rounded tugboat hull and classic wooden pilothouse to the towing winches, heavy-duty bitts, navigation mast, deck fittings, rope pudding fenders, and the vessel's iconic Moran Towing color scheme with its distinctive red-and-black funnel proudly displaying the famous white "M." Rather than being mass-produced, each model is individually handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, creating a museum-quality display piece worthy of any tugboat, harbor, or maritime history collection.

One of the defining characteristics of the Carol Moran is her beautifully rounded harbor tug hull, traditional wooden wheelhouse, and massive rope pudding fenders that protected both the tug and the ships she assisted. This handcrafted model faithfully recreates her classic towing equipment, aft towing bitts, navigation details, and distinctive Moran livery, beautifully capturing the strength, craftsmanship, and timeless character that made the Carol Moran one of America's most recognizable classic harbor tugboats.

The 30-inch model offers the perfect balance of craftsmanship, practicality, and value. Large enough to showcase the Carol Moran's intricate towing equipment, classic deck layout, and authentic harbor tug details, yet compact enough to fit comfortably on bookshelves, office desks, display cabinets, or mantels, it is an excellent choice for both home and office display. Its convenient size also makes it more affordable than larger models, easier to ship worldwide, and a meaningful gift for tugboat enthusiasts, maritime collectors, former mariners, or anyone who appreciates classic American harbor vessels.

Each piece is individually handcrafted, and production typically takes 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. Throughout the process, we'll keep you updated with detailed progress photos at every major milestone, allowing you to review the craftsmanship and approve each stage before we move forward.

You'll receive photos during:

- Hull construction
- Deck detailing and superstructure assembly
- Final painting and finishing

Your satisfaction comes first. We proceed to the next stage only after you've reviewed the previous one.

Secure Worldwide Delivery

Once you approve the completed model, it will be carefully packed in a custom-built wooden shipping crate with multiple layers of protective cushioning to ensure it arrives safely anywhere in the world.

History
The Carol Moran holds a celebrated place in the golden age of American harbor logistics, serving as a premier workhorse for the legendary Moran Towing Company of New York. Launched in July 1949 by the Levingston Shipbuilding Company of Orange, Texas, this state-of-the-art tugboat was a major component of the fleet's post-World War II modernization program. Measuring 105 feet in length and featuring a heavily reinforced steel hull, she was powered by a cutting-edge General Motors diesel-electric engine that granted her unmatched responsiveness and immense pulling power within the congested waters of New York Harbor.

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the Carol Moran was a constant, reassuring presence along the Manhattan waterfront, routinely tasked with the delicate and dangerous job of guiding massive transatlantic ocean liners—such as the RMS Queen Mary and SS United States—safely into their tightly packed slips. Sporting the iconic white "M" on her black smokestack, she came to symbolize the industrial muscle that kept the world's busiest commercial port operating efficiently
