Description

Own a handcrafted replica of one of the world's most legendary commercial fishing vessels. FV Northwestern rose to international fame as one of the featured vessels on Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch, earning a reputation as one of the toughest crab fishing boats ever to work the unforgiving waters of the Bering Sea. Built in 1977 and continuously operated by the Hansen family, the Northwestern has become a symbol of resilience, seamanship, and the relentless determination that defines the American commercial fishing industry.

Our 30-inch handcrafted FV Northwestern model faithfully captures the distinctive appearance of the original vessel. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in authentic wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, to ensure exceptional durability, fine craftsmanship, and a timeless finish.

Every element is carefully recreated, from the reinforced fishing hull and expansive working deck to the enclosed wheelhouse, hydraulic deck cranes, crab pot handling equipment, navigation mast, rigging, and the vessel's iconic white-and-blue hull. Rather than being mass-produced, each model is individually handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, creating a museum-quality display piece worthy of any maritime, commercial fishing, or Deadliest Catch collection.

One of the defining characteristics of FV Northwestern is her unmistakable white-and-blue livery and exceptionally long aft working deck, purpose-built for hauling heavy steel crab pots in the harsh conditions of the Bering Sea. This handcrafted model faithfully recreates her powerful hydraulic deck cranes, specialized crabbing equipment, pot-launching gear, reinforced bow, and rugged working profile, beautifully capturing the strength, functionality, and legendary character that have made the Northwestern one of the most celebrated commercial fishing vessels in modern maritime history.

The 30-inch model offers the perfect balance of craftsmanship, practicality, and value. Large enough to showcase the Northwestern's intricate fishing equipment, rugged deck layout, and authentic commercial vessel details, yet compact enough to fit comfortably on bookshelves, office desks, display cabinets, or mantels, it is an excellent choice for both home and office display. Its convenient size also makes it more affordable than larger models, easier to ship worldwide, and a meaningful gift for commercial fishing enthusiasts, Deadliest Catch fans, collectors, or anyone passionate about maritime history.

Each piece is individually handcrafted, and production typically takes 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. Throughout the process, we'll keep you updated with detailed progress photos at every major milestone, allowing you to review the craftsmanship and approve each stage before we move forward.

You'll receive photos during:

Hull construction
Deck detailing and superstructure assembly
Final painting and finishing

Your satisfaction comes first. We proceed to the next stage only after you've reviewed the previous one.

History
The F/V Northwestern is one of the most famous commercial fishing vessels in the world, renowned for its prominent role on the hit television series Deadliest Catch. Built in 1977 by Marco Shipbuilding in Seattle, Washington, this rugged crabbing boat was originally constructed at 108 feet long. To expand its holding capacity, the vessel was lengthened twice by the Hansen family: first to 118 feet in 1987, and finally to its current length of 125 feet in 1991. Specifically engineered to withstand the brutal, sub-zero conditions of the Alaskan Bering Sea, the vessel specializes in harvesting King Crab, Opilio Crab, and Pacific Cod under the long-standing command of the Hansen family.

Throughout its multi-decade operational career, the Northwestern has maintained an extraordinary record of safety and efficiency, making it one of the most successful boats in the entire Alaskan fleet. Featuring a robust steel hull and a highly recognizable white-and-blue livery, the ship is designed to carry hundreds of massive steel crab pots on its open deck while battling towering waves and freezing sea spray.
