History
The Madrid Maersk entered active service in April 2017 as the pioneering lead ship of Maersk Line’s second-generation Triple-E class of ultra-large container vessels. Constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) in South Korea, this massive 1,309-foot megaship broke industry records by becoming the first vessel ever to surpass the 20,000 TEU threshold, boasting a maximum carrying capacity of 20,568 TEUs. The ship was custom-engineered around the three core principles of the Triple-E philosophy: Economy of scale, Energy efficiency, and Environmentally improved performance.

Throughout its prominent career on the major trade lanes connecting East Asia to Northern Europe, the Madrid Maersk demonstrated the immense economic value of modern megaships. Featuring a highly advanced single-propulsion system and an optimized hull that deepened the hold to maximize cargo space, the vessel achieved unprecedented fuel savings and a significant reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional cargo liners.
