Description

NOAA Ship Reuben Lasker (R 228) is one of NOAA's most advanced fisheries survey vessels, commissioned in 2014 and named after renowned marine scientist Dr. Reuben Lasker. The vessel conducts fisheries research and oceanographic surveys to support sustainable marine resource management.

This 30-inch handcrafted model is meticulously built using the traditional plank-on-frame method and premium-grade woods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany. Every detail, from the spacious research deck and stern trawling ramp to the bridge, cranes, radar equipment, and scientific facilities, is carefully handcrafted by our skilled artisans to faithfully capture the authentic appearance of the original vessel.

One of the defining features of this model is the beautifully recreated fisheries research deck, complete with the stern trawl ramp, scientific winches, hydroacoustic survey equipment, navigation bridge, and intricate deck fittings. Every component is handcrafted with exceptional attention to detail, making this model an impressive display piece for collectors, marine science enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates NOAA's research fleet.

The 30-inch model strikes the perfect balance between impressive craftsmanship and practical display size. Large enough to showcase the vessel's intricate details while compact enough for bookshelves, display cabinets, office desks, or mantels, it complements both home and professional settings. Its manageable size also makes worldwide shipping more convenient and offers excellent value for collectors, military enthusiasts, veterans, and maritime history lovers

Completion typically takes 3 to 6 months, depending on the design complexity and selected materials.

History
Commissioned in 2014, NOAA Ship Reuben Lasker (R 228) is one of NOAA's newest fisheries survey vessels. Named after renowned fisheries scientist Dr. Reuben Lasker, the ship was specifically designed to conduct advanced ecosystem and fish population assessments along the U.S. West Coast. It replaced the aging NOAA Ship David Starr Jordan while introducing modern acoustic survey technology, environmental monitoring systems, and highly efficient scientific laboratories.

The vessel regularly conducts surveys of sardines, anchovies, hake, salmon, and numerous other commercially important fish species. By combining sonar technology with biological sampling and oceanographic research, Reuben Lasker provides critical data used to establish sustainable fishing quotas and protect marine ecosystems. Its work supports both the fishing industry and long-term conservation of ocean resources throughout the eastern Pacific.
