General Frank S. Besson Jr. (LSV-1) – 30-Inch Handcrafted Wooden Model
Celebrate one of the U.S. Army's most capable logistics vessels with our handcrafted General Frank S. Besson Jr. (LSV-1) model. Named after General Frank S. Besson Jr., a visionary leader in military logistics, LSV-1 serves as the lead ship of the General Frank S. Besson-class Logistics Support Vessel fleet. Designed to transport tanks, military vehicles, engineering equipment, containers, and humanitarian supplies directly to shore, the vessel enables rapid deployment without relying on developed port facilities. Its versatility has made it an indispensable asset for military operations, disaster relief, and humanitarian assistance worldwide.
Our 30-inch handcrafted LSV-1 model is individually built using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same construction principle used in classic wooden shipbuilding. Skilled craftsmen carefully select premium Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany to create a museum-quality display piece with exceptional durability, elegant wood grain, and remarkable attention to detail.
Every feature has been faithfully recreated, including the expansive cargo deck, reinforced bow ramp, navigation bridge, cranes, radar systems, deck machinery, lifeboats, and heavy-duty mooring equipment. Each model is handcrafted from start to finish, ensuring every piece possesses its own unique character while maintaining historical accuracy.
Unlike conventional cargo ships, LSV-1 was specifically engineered to deliver heavy military cargo directly onto undeveloped beaches and remote coastlines. Its shallow draft, large cargo capacity, and independent operating capability allow it to support expeditionary missions wherever infrastructure is limited. This handcrafted replica pays tribute to one of the U.S. Army's most important logistical assets and the professionals who operate it.
The 30-inch version provides an ideal display size for military collectors, veterans, and maritime enthusiasts. Large enough to showcase the vessel's impressive cargo configuration while compact enough for offices, bookshelves, display cabinets, and museums, it offers an exceptional balance of practicality and craftsmanship.
Each model is individually handcrafted with a typical production time of 3–6 months.

History
Commissioned in 1988, General Frank S. Besson Jr. (LSV-1) is the lead ship of the United States Army's General Frank S. Besson-class logistics support vessels. Named after General Frank S. Besson Jr., a pioneer in military logistics and transportation, the vessel was designed to transport heavy military equipment, vehicles, and cargo directly to areas where conventional port facilities may be unavailable. Its roll-on/roll-off capability and shallow draft make it particularly valuable for expeditionary operations.
Throughout its service, LSV-1 has participated in military exercises, humanitarian relief efforts, and logistical support missions across the Indo-Pacific and other operational theaters. The vessel has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to rapidly deliver critical supplies following natural disasters and during military deployments. Combining substantial cargo capacity with excellent operational flexibility, General Frank S. Besson Jr. remains one of the Army's most capable strategic sealift assets.
