Description

The Chris-Craft Triple Cockpit is one of the most iconic American wooden runabouts ever produced, celebrated for its elegant proportions, luxurious layout, and unmistakable varnished mahogany finish. Designed during the golden age of recreational boating in the 1920s and 1930s, the Triple Cockpit became a symbol of prestige and refined leisure on the water.

Distinguished by its three separate cockpits-forward passenger cockpit, mid companion cockpit, and aft helm position-this configuration offered both privacy and comfort, making it ideal for entertaining. The long foredeck, graceful sheer line, and signature tumblehome stern reflect the craftsmanship and styling that made Chris-Craft a household name.

Built for both performance and elegance, these boats were typically powered by robust inboard engines capable of delivering smooth cruising speeds with authority. The hull form balances stability and planing efficiency, offering a ride that is both responsive and composed.

Our workshop faithfully recreates this design using premium Western Red Cedar, Mahogany, and Teak, reinforced with U.S.-made Hexcel fiberglass and protected by System Three marine spar varnish. Each boat is built entirely by hand through the traditional plank-on-frame method, requiring approximately 4-5 months of detailed craftsmanship. Clients may customize wood selection, deck finish, cockpit upholstery, engine configuration, and interior detailing while preserving the classic geometry of the original design.

Founded in 1874 and rising to prominence in the early 20th century, Chris-Craft became synonymous with American luxury boating. The Triple Cockpit models gained particular popularity during the interwar period, when affluent families sought stylish, high-performance boats for lakes and coastal cruising.

These boats combined automotive-inspired engineering with handcrafted marine artistry. Chrome fittings, detailed dashboards, custom upholstery, and richly varnished decks defined an era when boating was both sport and social statement.

Today, the Chris-Craft Triple Cockpit remains one of the most collectible and recognizable classic wooden boats-an enduring icon of American design, craftsmanship, and maritime heritage.
