The SS Statendam was the fourth Holland America Line vessel to bear the name and served as a hallmark of the company’s commitment to elegant postwar ocean travel. Launched in 1956 and entering service in 1957, she was constructed by Wilton-Fijenoord in the Netherlands primarily for transatlantic voyages between Rotterdam and New York.
