Launched in 1981 and commissioned in 1983, she was the first surface combatant equipped with the revolutionary Aegis Combat System, which greatly enhanced air defense capabilities. Her commissioning marked a major step forward in naval warfare technology. Armed with Standard surface-to-air missiles, Harpoon anti-ship missiles, Tomahawk cruise missiles, and torpedoes, USS Ticonderoga-Class Cruiser (CG-47) was designed for multi-role missions including fleet air defense, strike warfare, and anti-submarine operations. She served in numerous exercises and deployments during the Cold War and post–Cold War era, projecting American naval power around the globe. After over two decades of service, USS Ticonderoga-Class Cruiser (CG-47) was decommissioned in 2004. Though no longer active, she set the standard for modern cruiser design and paved the way for a highly capable class of warships that remains essential to U.S. Navy operations today.
