Named after India’s first aircraft carrier, she was designed by the Indian Navy’s Directorate of Naval Design and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited. Construction began in 2009, and she was commissioned into service in September 2022. The carrier displaces around 45,000 tons and features a ski-jump flight deck for launching MiG-29K fighter jets and various helicopters. Powered by gas turbines, India INS Vikrant (IAC-1) has a top speed of over 28 knots and is equipped with modern sensors, weapons, and a state-of-the-art combat management system.
