She first saw action during World War I at the Battle of Jutland in 1916, where she sustained heavy damage but earned a reputation for resilience and fighting spirit. Between the wars, HMS Warspite underwent extensive modernization, receiving new engines, improved armor, and upgraded weaponry. In World War II, she served in numerous key operations, including the Battle of Narvik, the Battle of Cape Matapan, and the D-Day landings. She was nicknamed the “Grand Old Lady” for her durability and distinguished combat record. After the war, HMS Warspite was retired and slated for scrapping. However, during her final voyage in 1947, she broke free from her tow and ran aground in Cornwall. Though never fully dismantled, her legacy endures as one of the most decorated and admired ships in Royal Navy history.
