Based on the French Scorpène design by Naval Group, India's INS Kalvari Submarine (S21) was constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai under India’s "Make in India" initiative. The project aimed to enhance India’s underwater warfare capabilities with modern, stealthy submarines. Kalvari was launched in 2015 and commissioned into service on 14 December 2017. The submarine features advanced stealth technology, making it difficult to detect underwater.
