History
The Adventure is one of America's most celebrated historic fishing schooners and a lasting symbol of the New England fishing industry. Schooner Adventure was built in 1926 at the renowned Stage Fort Marine Railway in Gloucester, Massachusetts, for the Atlantic halibut and cod fisheries. Designed by noted naval architect Thomas F. McManus, the vessel combined speed, strength, and exceptional seaworthiness, making it well suited for long voyages to the rich fishing grounds of the Grand Banks and Georges Bank. During her commercial career, Adventure completed more than a hundred successful fishing trips, supplying fresh seafood to markets throughout the northeastern United States and earning a reputation as one of Gloucester's finest working schooners.

As commercial fishing shifted to diesel-powered trawlers after World War II, Adventure retired from active fishing in the 1950s and later served as a cargo vessel and training ship before falling into disrepair. Recognizing her historical importance, preservationists launched an ambitious restoration campaign that returned the schooner to her former glory while preserving much of her original structure. Today, Adventure operates as a floating maritime museum and educational vessel in Gloucester, welcoming visitors, students, and sailing enthusiasts aboard.
