Jeanie Johnston – 36-Inch Handcrafted Wooden Model
Own a handcrafted model of the Jeanie Johnston, one of Ireland's most celebrated emigrant ships and a lasting symbol of hope during the Great Irish Famine. Built in 1847, the Jeanie Johnston completed sixteen voyages across the Atlantic, carrying thousands of Irish emigrants to North America in search of a better future. Unlike many "coffin ships" of the era, the Jeanie Johnston earned an extraordinary reputation for safety, compassionate care, and skilled seamanship, with no passengers or crew lost during her emigrant voyages. Today, her legacy lives on through a faithful full-scale replica that serves as a floating museum, honoring the courage and resilience of those who crossed the Atlantic.
Our 36-inch handcrafted Jeanie Johnston model faithfully captures the distinctive appearance of this historic sailing vessel. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in real wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, ensuring exceptional durability, refined craftsmanship, and a timeless museum-quality finish.
Every element is carefully recreated, from the gracefully shaped wooden hull and towering masts to the intricate standing and running rigging, hand-stitched sails, deckhouses, anchors, ship's boats, decorative stern, railings, and other signature features that define the Jeanie Johnston. Rather than being mass-produced, each model is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a stunning display piece worthy of any maritime, historical, or nautical collection.
The 36-inch model offers an exceptional balance of impressive scale and fine craftsmanship. Its larger size allows for even greater detail and a more commanding display presence while remaining suitable for bookshelves, executive offices, display cabinets, or home libraries. The increased dimensions provide additional realism, making it an outstanding centerpiece for collectors, maritime enthusiasts, Irish history lovers, educators, or anyone who appreciates the beauty of traditional sailing ships.
Each piece is individually handcrafted, and production typically takes 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. Throughout the process, we'll keep you updated with detailed progress photos at every major milestone, allowing you to review the craftsmanship and approve each stage before we move forward.
You'll receive photos during:

History
The Jeanie Johnston was a three-masted barque constructed in Quebec, Canada, in 1847, during one of the most harrowing periods in Irish history. Built for the Glover family of Tralee, Ireland, the vessel was engineered to transport both cargo and passengers across the Atlantic between Ireland, North America, and other international ports. Her most significant historical role unfolded during the Great Famine, when thousands of Irish citizens were compelled to flee their homeland to escape starvation, poverty, and systemic economic collapse. Between 1848 and 1855, the Jeanie Johnston completed multiple voyages to North America, providing a vital lifeline for families seeking a new beginning overseas. Distinguished from many other "famine ships" of the era, the vessel maintained a remarkable reputation for safety, recording zero passenger fatalities throughout her years of emigrant service.
Following her period as a passenger carrier, the Jeanie Johnston continued her maritime career as a merchant vessel before ultimately being lost in an accident off the coast of North America in the late 19th century. Her legacy was later revived through the construction of a full-scale replica, launched in Ireland in 2000 following exhaustive historical research and the application of traditional shipbuilding techniques. Today, the replica operates as a floating museum, offering visitors an immersive look at the experiences of Irish emigrants and the immense challenges of 19th-century transatlantic travel. The Jeanie Johnston stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, migration, and maritime heritage, steadfastly preserving the memory of the millions who braved the Atlantic in pursuit of a better life.
