Description

USCGC Tahoma – 36-Inch Famous-Class Cutter Model

The USCGC Tahoma 36-inch model is a meticulously handcrafted representation of a U.S. Coast Guard Famous-Class Medium Endurance Cutter, showcasing more than 25 years of expertise in traditional wooden ship model craftsmanship. Built from premium materials, including Canadian Red Cedar and FSC-certified wood, this museum-quality replica is carefully constructed over approximately 3–6 months.

Each model is 100% handcrafted from scratch using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method, allowing our craftsmen to accurately reproduce the vessel’s distinctive hull, superstructure, and structural details. The first prototype was developed after months of studying available plans and photographs, with the initial production process supervised by an actual U.S. Coast Guard veteran to help ensure an authentic representation.

Designed for maritime enthusiasts, Coast Guard supporters, and ship model collectors, this detailed model celebrates the history and service of the Famous-Class cutters. Its impressive 36-inch scale and carefully executed details make it a striking centerpiece for a home, office, maritime collection, or nautical display.

At Captain Heritage™, we specialize in creating museum-quality, custom-made ship models designed for lasting display. We have access to a wide range of reference resources, including materials from museums and other historical sources worldwide. If you have specific plans, photographs, or design requirements, you can share them with us, and our craftsmen will work closely with you to create a model tailored to your specifications.

History of USCGC Tahoma

Commissioned in 1988, USCGC Tahoma was named after the earlier USRC Tahoma, which served during the early 20th century. As a Famous-Class Medium Endurance Cutter, Tahoma has supported a wide range of Coast Guard missions, with a particular focus on counter-narcotics operations in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.

The cutter has contributed to the interception and seizure of significant quantities of illegal drugs while also supporting humanitarian missions and disaster response operations. These diverse responsibilities demonstrate the versatility of the Famous-Class cutters and their important role in maritime safety, security, and the protection of lives at sea.

The USCGC Tahoma model preserves the character of this distinguished Coast Guard cutter in a detailed handcrafted form, making it a meaningful addition to any collection dedicated to U.S. maritime history, Coast Guard heritage, or professional wooden ship models.
