The Saipan is a charming 7'6" sailing pram originally designed by the renowned father-and-son team, William and John Atkin. This small but elegant craft was born from a heartfelt exchange-John sent his father hand-drawn plans of the design while stationed overseas, inspiring both the name Saipan and the legacy of this timeless little boat. Built for simplicity, strength, and seaworthiness, the Saipan reflects the Atkins' philosophy of practical beauty and efficient design.Our factory faithfully recreates this historic design using premium materials such as Western Red Cedar, Teak, Mahogany, and US -made Hexcel fiberglass with System Three marine spar varnish. Each model is completely hand-built using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method, taking 4-5 months to complete. Clients may customize dimensions, wood type, finish, rigging, or other design features according to their preference.With an overall length of 7 feet and a sturdy, well-balanced hull, the Saipan offers both stability and elegance. The design includes a center thwart and mast bench, with a reinforced centerboard trunk secured by oak straps for added rigidity. Floor gratings are raised above the bottom for easy drainage, while open gunwales ensure the boat stays clean and dry.
