USCGC Storis Icebreaker – 36-Inch Handcrafted Wooden Model
Own a handcrafted tribute to one of the most historic icebreaking vessels in United States Coast Guard history. The USCGC Storis is a legendary cutter known for her pioneering service in the Arctic and her important role in supporting navigation, exploration, and maritime operations in some of the world's most challenging waters. Commissioned in 1948, Storis became the first U.S. Coast Guard cutter to circumnavigate North America, completing the historic voyage through the Northwest Passage in 1957. With her rugged construction, icebreaking capability, and decades of dedicated service, Storis represents the courage, endurance, and exploration spirit of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Our 36-inch handcrafted USCGC Storis Icebreaker model faithfully captures the distinctive appearance of the original vessel. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in real wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, to ensure exceptional durability, fine detail, and a timeless finish.
Every element is carefully recreated, from the reinforced hull and ice-strengthened bow to the bridge, navigation equipment, radar masts, lifeboats, deck machinery, cranes, railings, and other signature features that define this historic Arctic service vessel. Rather than being mass-produced, each model is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a museum-quality display piece worthy of any Coast Guard, icebreaker, or maritime history collection.
The 36-inch model offers a larger, more commanding display while showcasing an even greater level of craftsmanship and detail. Its increased size allows the USCGC Storis' distinctive hull, Arctic design features, and classic Coast Guard appearance to stand out more prominently, making it an impressive centerpiece for an office, study, display cabinet, or dedicated collection room. Ideal for Coast Guard supporters, Arctic exploration enthusiasts, maritime historians, and serious collectors, the 36-inch version delivers enhanced realism and visual impact while remaining practical for most display spaces. It is the perfect choice for those seeking a substantial museum-quality model that celebrates the adventure, resilience, and historic legacy of this remarkable icebreaking cutter.
Each piece is individually handcrafted, with production typically taking 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. Throughout the process, we'll keep you updated with detailed progress photos at every major milestone, allowing you to review the craftsmanship and approve each stage before we move forward.
You'll receive photos during:
- Hull construction
- Deck detailing and superstructure assembly
- Final painting and finishing
Your satisfaction comes first. We proceed to the next stage only after you've reviewed the previous one.
Secure Worldwide Delivery
Once you approve the completed model, it will be carefully packed in a custom-built wooden shipping crate with multiple layers of protective cushioning to ensure it arrives safely anywhere in the world.

History
The USCGC Storis (WAGB-21) stands as the latest polar icebreaker in the United States Coast Guard, marking the return of a historic name to active American service. Originally constructed in 2012 by the Vard Langsten Shipyard in Norway as the commercial icebreaking vessel Aiviq, the ship was acquired by the Coast Guard in 2024 to bolster U.S. Arctic operations while the next generation of Polar Security Cutters is in development. Following extensive modifications to meet military standards, the vessel was commissioned as the USCGC Storis in 2025. Measuring approximately 360 feet (110 m) in length, she is engineered with powerful diesel-electric propulsion, advanced navigation systems, and a reinforced hull capable of traversing the most demanding polar environments.
The USCGC Storis is designed to support a versatile portfolio of missions, including polar icebreaking, search and rescue, maritime security, scientific research, and logistical support for remote regions. The cutter significantly enhances the Coast Guard's capacity to maintain a year-round presence in the rapidly changing Arctic, an area of increasing commercial and strategic importance. Named in honor of the legendary 1942 cutter that served for over six decades, the new Storis carries forward a distinguished maritime legacy while strengthening the United States' ability to operate safely and effectively in some of the harshest waters on Earth.
