History
The USCGC Storis (WAGB-21) stands as the latest polar icebreaker in the United States Coast Guard, marking the return of a historic name to active American service. Originally constructed in 2012 by the Vard Langsten Shipyard in Norway as the commercial icebreaking vessel Aiviq, the ship was acquired by the Coast Guard in 2024 to bolster U.S. Arctic operations while the next generation of Polar Security Cutters is in development. Following extensive modifications to meet military standards, the vessel was commissioned as the USCGC Storis in 2025. Measuring approximately 360 feet (110 m) in length, she is engineered with powerful diesel-electric propulsion, advanced navigation systems, and a reinforced hull capable of traversing the most demanding polar environments.

The USCGC Storis is designed to support a versatile portfolio of missions, including polar icebreaking, search and rescue, maritime security, scientific research, and logistical support for remote regions.
