Description

SS Noordam (1902) Ocean Liner – 30-Inch Handcrafted Wooden Model

Own a handcrafted model of the SS Noordam (1902), one of the distinguished transatlantic ocean liners of the early 20th century. Launched in 1902 for the Holland America Line, the SS Noordam was built to provide dependable passenger and cargo service between Europe and North America during a period of unprecedented transatlantic migration. Renowned for her sturdy construction, elegant profile, and reliable performance, she transported thousands of passengers seeking new opportunities across the Atlantic. During World War I, the Noordam continued to serve with distinction, further cementing her place in maritime history as a symbol of Dutch seafaring excellence.

Our 30-inch handcrafted SS Noordam (1902) Ocean Liner model faithfully captures the distinctive appearance of this historic vessel. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in real wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, ensuring exceptional durability, refined craftsmanship, and a timeless museum-quality finish.

Every element is carefully recreated, from the gracefully proportioned hull and elegant superstructure to the bridge, twin funnels, promenade decks, lifeboats, masts, cargo booms, ventilators, railings, and other signature features that define the SS Noordam (1902). Rather than being mass-produced, each model is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a stunning display piece worthy of any maritime, ocean liner, or Holland America Line collection.

The 30-inch model offers the perfect balance of craftsmanship, practicality, and value. Large enough to showcase the SS Noordam's intricate details yet compact enough to fit comfortably on bookshelves, office desks, display cabinets, or mantels, it is an ideal choice for both home and office display. Its convenient size also makes it more affordable than larger models, easier to ship worldwide, and a thoughtful gift for ocean liner enthusiasts, maritime historians, collectors, or anyone who appreciates the elegance of the early Age of Transatlantic Travel.

Each piece is individually handcrafted, and production typically takes 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. Throughout the process, we'll keep you updated with detailed progress photos at every major milestone, allowing you to review the craftsmanship and approve each stage before we move forward.

You'll receive photos during:

- Hull construction
- Deck detailing and superstructure assembly
- Final painting and finishing

Your satisfaction comes first. We proceed to the next stage only after you've reviewed the previous one.

History
SS Noordam was a transatlantic passenger liner built for the Holland America Line by Harland & Wolff in Belfast. Launched in 1901 and entering service in 1902, she was designed to carry first-, second-, and third-class passengers between Rotterdam and New York during a period of rapidly expanding European emigration. Measuring over 560 feet in length and powered by twin-screw steam engines, Noordam combined dependable performance with comfortable accommodations. Thousands of immigrants, tourists, and business travelers crossed the Atlantic aboard the ship, making her an important link between Europe and North America in the early twentieth century.

During the First World War, SS Noordam continued operating under neutral Dutch ownership, transporting passengers and cargo while carefully navigating the dangers of wartime seas. After the conflict, she resumed regular commercial service but gradually became outdated as newer, larger, and faster liners entered service. In the early 1920s, the ship was withdrawn from the prestigious North Atlantic route and later employed on other voyages before being sold for scrapping in 1928. Although she did not achieve the fame of some larger ocean liners, SS Noordam earned a reputation for reliability and safe service over more than two decades. Today, she is remembered as an important vessel in Holland America Line's history and as part of the great era of transatlantic steamship travel that connected millions of people across the Atlantic.
