History
The Pegasus Barge was constructed in 1999 by NASA to transport oversized aerospace components, particularly the Space Shuttle External Tanks, between manufacturing facilities in Louisiana and the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Designed with an unusually large open cargo deck and shallow draft, the barge enabled the safe transportation of structures too large for rail or highway shipment, becoming a critical logistical link within NASA's Space Shuttle Program.

Throughout its operational life, Pegasus carried every External Tank used during the Space Shuttle era and later supported transportation for components of NASA's Space Launch System (SLS).
