1940 Chris-Craft 19 Runabout “Barrel Back” – 30" Wooden Boat Model

The 1940 Chris-Craft 19' Custom Runabout “Barrel Back” is an iconic example of classic American wooden boat design. Known for its distinctive rounded stern, elegant lines, and beautifully finished mahogany appearance, the Barrel Back represents the refined craftsmanship and styling of pre-war Chris-Craft runabouts.

This 30-inch custom-made model is handcrafted to order using premium Western Red Cedar, Teak, Mahogany, and carefully selected exotic hardwoods. Built with traditional plank-on-frame construction, the model faithfully captures the characteristic barrel-shaped stern, streamlined deck, cockpit layout, and detailed hardware of the original boat.

Each model requires approximately 4–5 months to complete, depending on the selected specifications and finish.

Handcrafted with Detailed Production Updates

Every model is carefully built by skilled craftsmen with close attention to scale, proportions, and finishing details. Throughout the production process, customers receive detailed photo updates at major construction stages, allowing them to review and approve the work before the next stage begins.

Key production stages include:

  • Hull construction and planking
  • Deck detailing and cockpit layout
  • Structural and hardware detailing
  • Painting and varnishing
  • Final finishing and quality inspection

Once the model receives final approval, it is carefully secured inside a custom wooden shipping crate with reinforced protective cushioning for safe worldwide transportation.

A Classic Pre-War Chris-Craft Design

Introduced in the late 1930s, the Chris-Craft Barrel Back Runabout became one of the most recognizable wooden pleasure boats of its era. Its signature rounded transom, which inspired the “Barrel Back” name, created a distinctive continuous profile and contributed to the boat's elegant appearance.

The 19-foot version offered balanced proportions, a practical cockpit arrangement, and dependable performance for recreational boating on inland waterways. Its combination of polished mahogany, graceful curves, and refined detailing reflected the design language of the golden age of American wooden boatbuilding.

Production of these classic runabouts was eventually affected by the changing industrial priorities surrounding World War II, making surviving original examples increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.

Today, the 1940 Chris-Craft 19 Runabout “Barrel Back” remains a celebrated symbol of pre-war American boating heritage. This handcrafted 30-inch replica brings its timeless design and distinctive wooden craftsmanship to collectors, maritime
