Commissioned in 2006, the USCGC Mackinaw (WLBB-30) was built to replace the legendary original Mackinaw and serves as the Coast Guard's flagship icebreaker on the Great Lakes. Designed for year-round operations, the vessel performs a wide range of missions, including icebreaking, buoy tending, search and rescue, law enforcement, environmental protection, and maritime safety. With its innovative design, powerful propulsion system, and exceptional versatility, Mackinaw plays a vital role in keeping Great Lakes shipping lanes open while safeguarding one of North America's busiest waterways.

Our 36-inch handcrafted USCGC Mackinaw model faithfully captures the distinctive appearance of the original vessel. Each model is individually built by experienced craftsmen using the traditional plank-on-frame construction method—the same principle used in real wooden shipbuilding. We select only premium hardwoods, including Western Red Cedar, Teak, and Mahogany, to ensure exceptional durability, fine detail, and a timeless finish.

Every element is carefully recreated, from the reinforced icebreaking hull and commanding bridge to the buoy-handling crane, working decks, radar masts, navigation equipment, lifeboats, and other signature features that distinguish this remarkable Coast Guard cutter. Rather than being mass-produced, each model is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, resulting in a museum-quality display piece worthy of any maritime or Coast Guard collection.

The 36-inch model offers a larger, more commanding display while showcasing an even greater level of craftsmanship and detail. Its increased size allows the Mackinaw's distinctive icebreaking bow, expansive working decks, and intricate superstructure to stand out more prominently, making it an impressive centerpiece for an office, study, display cabinet, or dedicated collection room. Ideal for Coast Guard veterans, Great Lakes enthusiasts, maritime professionals, and serious collectors, the 36-inch version delivers enhanced realism and visual impact while remaining practical for most display spaces. It is the perfect choice for those seeking a substantial museum-quality model that celebrates the strength, versatility, and enduring service of this iconic Great Lakes icebreaker.

Each piece is individually handcrafted, with production typically taking 3–6 months, depending on the model's size and complexity. Designed specifically for operations on the Great Lakes, the vessel combines powerful icebreaking capability with buoy tending, search and rescue, environmental response, and maritime law enforcement duties. Its innovative hull design and diesel-electric propulsion system enable Mackinaw to break through thick freshwater ice while maintaining safe navigation routes for commercial shipping during the harsh winter months.

As the Coast Guard's largest icebreaking buoy tender, Mackinaw plays a critical role in keeping one of North America's busiest inland waterways open year-round. In addition to clearing shipping lanes, the vessel services hundreds of navigation buoys each season and regularly supports emergency response missions throughout the Great Lakes. Its unique combination of icebreaking strength, modern technology, and multipurpose capability has made Mackinaw one of the most versatile vessels in the Coast Guard fleet, continuing a proud tradition of safeguarding commerce and maritime safety across the Great Lakes region.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0631/8112/7901/files/1_8c5b29cf-ed38-4bff-b289-fdbb676bc934.jpg?v=1787649288
